What I Learned My First Few Years in a Spiritual Business

Starting a spiritual business is a journey like no other. It’s a path that not only challenges your professional skills but also stretches your emotional and spiritual growth in ways you may never have imagined. When I founded Brahmaloka Healing Arts LLC, I envisioned a serene sanctuary where healing and spirituality would intersect. But as the years unfolded, I discovered that running a spiritual business is a dynamic dance between intuition, practicality, and perseverance. Here are some of the most significant lessons I’ve learned during my first few years on this transformative path.

1. Passion Alone Isn’t Enough

Starting with a vision rooted in passion is crucial, but passion alone won’t keep the wheels turning. I’ve always been deeply connected to the healing arts (hence the reason why I chose to become a Registered Nurse as the entrance into my healing career) but I quickly realized that translating those passions into a thriving business required strategic planning and consistent effort. Learning the intricacies of marketing, bookkeeping, customer service, and content creation was just as important as honing my spiritual practices. The first year was so hard. Thankfully, my 'significant other' who's also my business mentor was instrumental in launching my business. I owe it to him so much for where I am today! If you're interested in starting ANY business, make sure to speak with someone who has successfully launched businesses before and can give you a quick run-down of what exactly needs to be done right away before taking on any clients or selling goods/services.

Spirituality and business might seem like polar opposites, but I’ve found that integrating both creates a solid foundation. There is no way that I'd be able to do business without working on myself... self improvement and self awareness is super important! I have a spiritual meditative practice that I've been diligently practicing for over 12 years, so I continued to do that for my spiritual wellness and to ground my energies daily. I do this every morning and evening regardless of what's going on. I also invested in my self improvement through counseling (therapy), reading books on self-improvement and on building a business, and taking courses on bookkeeping and finance (since that is important too.... you cannot have a sustainable business without money coming in!). So the doldrums of practicality really does matter, even if it's not what makes your creative juices flow. And creating systems that work FOR you, not against you, can be set up from the get-go so that you end up having a seamless work flow that works on its own once it's dialed in! My mentor suggested that I do this right away and informed me of the reasons WHY: "You make sure that the systems are set up so that when you're ready to grow your business bigger, you have the systems in place to be able to handle the growth, and minimize the growing pains."

2. Authenticity Resonates

One of the most beautiful aspects of running a spiritual business is the ability to connect with others on a deep and meaningful level. Early on, I learned that authenticity is the cornerstone of those connections. Clients and customers are drawn to genuine energy. They can sense when you’re operating from a place of Truth versus when you’re simply trying to make a sale.

Being transparent about my journey, including my struggles and triumphs, allowed me to build trust with my audience. Whether it was sharing my experiences with herbal remedies and energetic healing or opening up about my path in tarot readings, authenticity has been a magnet for like-minded souls seeking healing and guidance. I've not had any issues with drawing in the "wrong" clients, because I make sure that whatever I do, I do it out of personal integrity and keep showing my most authentic self, no matter how scary or embarrassing that can feel for me.

I'm still a work in progress and I don't feel superior to my clients. I'm humbled to be trusted by them. They trust me because I've personally been through and overcame similar struggles that they are now experiencing, so they know that I come from a deep level of understanding and compassion with what they're going through. It makes me a better healer in many ways, and they genuinely feel it.

3. Boundaries Are Sacred

When your work involves helping others heal and empowering them to see that they CAN heal, it can be easy to overextend yourself. In the early days of Brahmaloka Healing Arts LLC, I often found myself saying yes to every request. I wanted to help everyone, but this quickly led to burnout. And I was already experiencing emotional ups and downs not only from launching the business but also because I was going through addressing long-held emotional traumas. Over time, I realized the importance of setting clear boundaries- And not only with my clients, but with all people in my life. I recognized that boundaries were not something that was selfish... it indeed helped me to step into my OWN power, thus again being a beacon of integrity for my clients.

Boundaries are not only necessary for preserving your energy but also for maintaining the integrity of your work. Now, I ensure that I have dedicated time for self-care, friends, chosen family, and personal growth. By honoring my own needs, I’ve been able to show up more fully for my clients and deliver the quality of care they deserve.

4. Education Never Stops

When I launched Brahmaloka Healing Arts, I already had years of experience in nursing, energetic healing, and herbalism. However, I quickly discovered that the spiritual and wellness industry is ever-evolving. To stay relevant and effective, continuous learning is essential.

I’ve invested in courses on other healing modalities, marketing strategies, and even technology to improve my business operations. Expanding my knowledge not only keeps my offerings fresh but also reaffirms my commitment to providing the best possible experience for my clients. Just recently, I added more services to my offerings at Brahmaloka Healing Arts LLC! I'm excited to offer these new services, and I'm also eventually going to add another service, Pranic Healing, to the mix! Check out my website for more information! (www.brahmalokahealingarts.com)

5. Your Tribe Will Find You

One of the hardest lessons I learned was to stop trying to appeal to everyone. When you try to appeal to everyone, you end up getting lost in the algorithmic matrix of the internet. In the beginning, I worried about pleasing every potential client, but this diluted my message and drained my energy. Over time, I realized that when you stay true to your unique gifts and values, the right people will naturally be drawn to your work.

Today, I focus on creating content and services that align with my mission: Empowering People to Heal. Whether through blog posts, reiki or healing touch sessions, tarot readings, or herbal consultations, I speak directly to the people who resonate with my vision. This shift has not only attracted more aligned clients but has also made my work infinitely more fulfilling.

6. Flexibility is Key

Running a spiritual business is not a linear journey. There were times when I took too long to make decisions, and times I made the WRONG decisions which further delayed my business growth. Instead of seeing these moments as failures, I learned to view them as opportunities for growth and adjustment.

Flexibility has been crucial in navigating the ebb and flow of my business. For example, when I started Brahmaloka Tarot on YouTube, I didn’t immediately see the growth I had hoped for. But by experimenting with different content formats and listening to viewer feedback, I’ve been able to steadily build an audience. Adapting to challenges rather than resisting them has been one of the most empowering lessons of this journey.

7. Money is Energy

For many spiritual entrepreneurs, charging for services can feel uncomfortable at first. I’ve grappled with the notion of placing monetary value on something as Sacred as Healing. However, I’ve come to understand that money is simply an exchange of energy. It took me a very long time to feel worthy of receiving money for the services I offered. I didn't launch Brahmaloka Healing Arts LLC until I had given away free healing sessions to hundreds of people over 8 years. It took THAT LONG before I recognized that money IS energy, and I was worthy and deserving of a good life by providing the services people were seeking.

When clients invest in my services at Brahmaloka Healing Arts LLC, they are committing to their own healing journey. Charging fair prices not only values the time, energy, and expertise I bring to my work but also encourages clients to take the process seriously. Embracing this perspective has allowed me to overcome any lingering discomfort around money. I recently increased my prices a week ago, and added new services to my offerings. I did this out of LOVE for myself AND the Brahmaloka community of clients. I can now feel good about the time it takes for me to serve each and every client, and I hope that the clients feel they get so much more in-depth connection and tools that they can thus carry back with them into their own lives.

8. Community is Everything

Building a community has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my business. Whether it’s through collaborations with other healers, engaging with clients on social media, or connecting with followers through my YouTube channel, fostering a sense of community has been invaluable.

This network of support has not only helped me grow my business but has also provided me with inspiration and encouragement during challenging times. I’ve learned that lifting others up often leads to mutual growth, creating a ripple effect of positivity and abundance.

9. Celebrate Small Wins

In the hustle of running a business, it’s easy to overlook small milestones. But I’ve found that celebrating these moments, no matter how minor they may seem, is crucial for staying motivated. Whether it’s gaining a new client, hearing from a client after a session together, or receiving and reading google reviews, acknowledging these achievements keeps the momentum going.

Each win, big or small, is a reminder of how far I’ve come and a testament to the hard work I’ve put into Brahmaloka Healing Arts.

10. Trust the Process

Perhaps the most profound lesson I’ve learned is to TRUST THE PROCESS. The path of entrepreneurship, especially in the spiritual realm, is rarely smooth. There will be moments of doubt, fear, and uncertainty. But these moments are often the catalysts for growth and transformation.

Every challenge I’ve faced has taught me something valuable, whether it’s about my business, my clients, or myself. Trusting that each step—even the difficult ones—is part of a greater journey has been a guiding light in my experience.

The first few years of Brahmaloka Healing Arts LLC have been an incredible adventure filled with lessons, growth, and connection. While the path hasn’t always been easy, it has been deeply rewarding. By embracing authenticity, setting boundaries, and staying committed to continuous learning, I’ve been able to create a business that not only supports others but also nurtures my own soul and is part of my Dharma here on this Earth.

If you’re considering starting your own spiritual business or are currently navigating your early years, know that you’re not alone. Trust your instincts, stay true to your vision, and remember that every step—even the challenging ones—is a part of your unique journey. As I’ve learned, the most important thing is to keep moving forward, one intentional step at a time. Persevere and never give up. The ones who keep going no matter what the outcome, will be the ones that shine on into the future.

With Gratitude,

Lauren @ Brahmaloka Healing Arts LLC
